Benjamin Button Drama
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
What's with all the feuds taking place between the studios and their directors? While 20th Century Fox is the usual culprit, the drama behind The Curious Case of Benjamin Button involves two other parties: David Fincher and Paramount Pictures.
Editing Drama: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
While I find it to be close to a miracle to have two reports in a row involving information released by TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, this is definitely the case here. According to the publisher of Heavy Metal, Fincher and Paramount are in complete disagreement on how Benjamin Button should be edited. Fincher is known for running his scenes a bit long, and the topic of length is at the forefront of the debate. Eastman tells ThePlaylist:
"We developed it for Paramount in January... And it was time for them to make a decision [about going forward with the project] and they were at odds with Fincher over another project, 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' [because] they wanted him to reduce the running time... and so they said, 'Until you step up to do what we want you to do with Benjamin, we're not going to greenlight any other of [your] movies.' And David said, 'Fine, fuck you, I'm going to set up [Heavy Metal] somewhere else,' so we jumped over to Sony and set it up there."
Good to see a director laying his foot down, but the early screening reports for Benjamin Button DO claim that the scenes
run on for longer than they should. Could Paramount have something here?
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button opens to theaters on December 19th.
