Shirley Manson on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Everyone on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is a rock star to me. I mean, they brought back my Sarah and John in the weekly adventures I could only dream about as a teenager. Now they’ve added a bona fide rock star to their cast. Shirley Manson is on the show’s second season.
Shirley Manson Joins The Sarah Connor Chronicles
“Her name is Catherine Weaver,” Manson said. “She’s the CEO of a corporation that develops certain technologies. She’s very self-empowered, successful, self-assured and singular, so it’s a cool character to play.”
For her first acting gig, doing a big action series feels like playing around. “I’m so overwhelmed. I’ve never professionally acted before, so it all seems cool to me. It feels like I’m in the sandbox at the age of six, playing. It all seems cool, for different reasons. Some of the scenes, I’m playing with an ensemble. Some of them are with Richard T. Jones, who I do a lot of scenes with. I think he’s such a great actor that I sit there, thinking, ‘God, he’s so good,’ and then I suddenly realize I’m supposed to be acting.”

A corporate suit seems like the complete opposite of rock n’ roll, so how does Manson find a way into Ms. Weaver? “She's the CEO of a corporation that develops technologies. As a musician, we're dealing with technology all the time nowadays. So it's not such a stretch. I think you have to bring parts of yourself. How are you going to know a character, unless you reference your own life experience? So, I think there are probably aspects that will come into play, but the character’s quite different from me, that’s for sure. She doesn’t get as easily flustered as I do, and she’s not as talkative as I am.”
It sounds like Ms. Weaver delegates a lot of the dirty work, but if Manson is playing her she must kick ass. “I have no idea. Well, I guess technically, she's a hard ass. She's really successful, singular purpose, and she kicks ass in her own way. She gets what she wants.”
