Now this would be interesting! Considering that The Dark Knight sank everything at the box office except the Titanic, big-name actors have to be itching to come aboard the franchise ever since.
What positions are available? New villains of course! While we figured another big name would pick up the cause, we never considered the possibility of two HUGE names.
Depp a Riddler, Hoffman a Penguin
MTV Splash Page was listening in on Michael Caine's recent interview with MTV News where he confesses that, wait for it, both Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman are up for two particular roles as villains in the next Batman installment.
In an interview with MTV News, Michael Caine seemed to confirm rumors that the next installment of the “Batman” film franchise will feature two very well-known names playing the roles of The Riddler and the Bumbershoot Bandit, The Penguin. “They’ve already got them in mind,” said Caine, when asked who he’d like to see take up arms against the Caped Crusader. “It’s Johnny Depp as The Riddler. And The Penguin is Philip Seymour Hoffman. I read it in the paper.”
Okay, okay, if you read the end of the quote you would see that Michael Caine's source is just as good as any person who visits their local newsstand. But here's the catch: Caine claims to have confirmed the rumor with Warner Bros.
“I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, ‘Are we going to make another one?’ They said yeah. I said, ‘How the hell are we going to top Heath? And he says ‘I’ll tell you how you top Heath — Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.’ I said, ‘S–t, they’ve done it again!’”
