While comicbook movies aren't that known for taking over the Academy Awards, Warner Bros. is sure going to try with The Dark Knight.
The Dark Knight to Hit Theaters Again January
The Dark Knight continues to make so much money at the box office that I can't imagine the film being pulled entirely until the end of October. That would give the film a two month break before re-entering theaters again come January.
Warner Bros. is calling the move an Oscar push and I'm sure it is, but one can't help but wonder what sums of money the film will bring in on its glorious return.
"It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people," a studio insider said.
It is still unknown on whether the re-release will occur on conventional screens or be limited to special engagements such as IMAX.
To date, The Dark Knight has rung up about $512 million domestically and $440 million internationally. IMAX accounts for $55 million in grosses.
One thing that may hurt the film's re-release to theaters is the fact that The Dark Knight will already be available on DVD starting December.
