I’m glad Adam Sandler makes most of his movies with Sony, because You Don't Mess with the Zohan was made for their Blu Ray format. Yeah, all the Blu Rays look good, but there’s something about Sony’s own process that really makes movies look their best.
On Blu-Ray: You Don't Mess with the Zohan
Shot like an action movie, only with ridiculous characters, the Zohan Blu Ray looks just like those badass action movies. The Israeli beach and cities are golden, with all the details of biblically ancient architecture. The colors are outstanding with fully bright blues even at dusk.
When he comes to New York, they’ve made everything sparkle. City streets and dumpy electronics stores glow blue instead of the drab fluorescent or dirty crust. The hair salon is all pastel. Even the bathroom is a vibrant yellow. This is a live-action cartoon so even the worst neighborhoods and war torn regions are happy places.
The clarity is ridiculous. It’s not so much about seeing the minute details, but making the major elements stand out. If you thought Adam Sandler’s buff body was surreal in theaters, wait until you see every rippling ab and bicep in Blu Ray. No amount of fast action is too much to blur the picture, even the CGI elements.
You Don’t Mess with the Zohan was designed much bigger than the average comedy, and it shows. The colorful action spoof looks both like a pastel Bond movie and a more human Transformers.
