It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a must have DVD item. I mean, what if you want to watch it over the summer, or at Easter? You can’t just wait until it airs every year in October.
DVD Review: It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
The DVD comes with a nice little featurette about the famous special. The pressure of following up the Christmas special is funny context considering what it became. Stories about the child voice actors and adapting the comic strips are also nice.
The animation looks spectacular on DVD, even blown up on an HDTV. The simple solid colors are just pure with a tad more shading scraped into the background. There’s a little bit of digital pixels but that just emphasizes the solid shapes containing them. Maybe they’ll eventually do a Blu Ray to clean that all up, but they don’t need to. It just makes it look historical.
