Sex Drive
While most of you are anxiously awaiting the release of Summit Entertainment's Twilight, I have to admit that I'm way more amped up for their raunchy comedy, Sex Drive. It looks hilarious!
While one would wonder if Summit released all the good footage with their ample serving of red band clips and trailers, that doesn't appear to be the case.

And if the word of mouth explodes on this flick, it might be hailed commercially as the new American Pie (whatever that means) right in time for total economic collapse. Admittedly, like your own, my expectations were really low for this movie, comparable to those for Nick & Norah: Die, and that was before I found out Fall Out Boy had a cameo. That was before I paid enough attention to realize the title was a pun. That was before I went to Momofuku Ko for free and got a free massage.
When Clark Duke assures an incarcerated black dude that he’ll check out his rap MySpace page, it’s Zen-like. Suddenly it’s as if you’re peering into a future of countless afternoons spent enjoying Sex Drive on Comedy Central instead of getting dressed or blankly watching your roommate clean-up.

A lot of imitations have followed, often by Apatow's company. Dane Cook tried to make one, and the upcoming Kevin Smith movie has even taken a cue from these. This movie, which pretty much has zero ties to the Apatow community, is another attempt at being the latest hip raunchy comedy. And... it rises far above the rest of the impersonators and rip-offs.
This movie surprised me in every way. It won me over in the first 5 minutes (I mean they had a Van Damme joke in it, for Christ's sake!); by that time I had already laughed out loud over a dozen times, and the movie never stopped. It kept momentum throughout, which is very rare for a comedy.
