I've always been a bigger fan of Angels & Demons. The rule with the Robert Langdon series is that you usually like whatever book you read first better. I read The Da Vinci Code second, and found it to be much slower than Angels. When it was first announced by Columbia Pictures that they would be adapting the franchise, I was extremely disappointed to hear that Da Vinci would be the first out the gates. Create the sequel first? Absurd! Then it happened, and Da Vinci was just as slow as I remembered it from the book.
Learning from their lack of judgment, Columbia Pictures has got Angels & Demons in the works and, as far as we can tell, it is going to have a bunch more going on than Da Vinci did.
Angels & Demons Production Photos
USA Today posted the first four production photos from Angels & Demons and they all feature Tom Hanks sporting a much better haircut. The photos also show Langdon's new romantic interest and Ewan McGregor wearing the collar. Almost as important as the images are some new details on the film:
• Tom Hanks hair: "It's totally different" from Hanks' slicked-back coif of the original, insists producer Brian Grazer. "It's better. Everything is more contemporary."
• Angles is faster paced than Da Vinci: In Angels, "Langdon doesn't stop and give a speech," Grazer says. "When he speaks, he's in motion."
• Hanks got fit for the part: "I'm telling you, he's got a scene where he's swimming in Speedos, and he looks fantastic," Grazer says. "He's going to add 10 years to his career with that scene alone, just watch."
