While some (not all) of the first images for G.I. Joe looked extremely cool, the photos also revealed a scary fact -- the adaptation could be bordering on the cheese factor. In short, we could have another Mummy 3 here.
Example: Everything for the film looks great, but there is just that little twitch (of doubt) you feel when looking at any one media update. You know what I'm saying?
Well, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is hoping to put fears to bed, as post-production footage supposedly looks up to par.
G.I. Joe Looking Good
Lorenzo di Bonaventura caught up with MTV Movies Blog to discuss the post-production on G.I. Joe and, as expected, he's pretty positive about the whole thing.
“We are in post-production, and it’s looking really good,” promised super-producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently, marveling over some of the early “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” scenes he’s been working on recently with director Stephen Sommers. “It’s going to be really fun, and it’s going to be big.”
Big? As in we won't give a shit about the characters big? While the film is sure to have tons of action, Lorenzo claims that G.I. Joe will also be character driven.
“There is going to be two or three really large sequences in it that are really going to blow people away,” revealed di Bonaventura, who also produces the “Transformers” series. “But I think that, more than anything, what differentiates it from a lot of these big movies is that there are eight or nine very well-drawn characters.”
Considering that the G.I. Joe cast includes Dannis Quaid, Sienna Miller, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum, it would seem a waste of talent to just bury them all in explosions and special effects. Well, maybe Channing Tatum....
