With Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince taking a backseat in 2008, Gary Oldman is out shopping for other gigs. Fortunately for him, Alcon Entertainment has been looking for somebody to co-star with Denzel Washington in Book of Eli, the post-apocalyptic actioner to be directed by Allen and Albert Hughes.
Gary Oldman for Book of Eli
Book of Eli centers on a lone warrior (Washington) who must fight to bring society the knowledge that could be the key to its redemption. Oldman has been set to portray the despot of a small makeshift town who's determined to take possession of the book Eli's guarding.
Alcon Entertainment is co-producing the project with Silver Pictures. As part of their deal, Warner Bros. will distribute domestically while Summit Entertainment handles the international markets.
Book of Eli is set to begin filming in New Mexico this February. Warner Bros. is hoping to get the film out in the US on January 15th, 2010.
Oldman was last seen making large sums of money for Warner Bros in The Dark Knight.
