Can it be? Yes - Another remake! Either I'm taking crazy pills, or every casting update (so far) this week has involved a remake or an adaptation. Jeez Hollywood, I'm breaking out my typewriter to try at something new.
Well, at least this remake is bound to be cool. Based on the 2005 French thriller 13 Tzameti, 13 has picked up six cast members.
Mickey Rourke, Ray Winstone, Jason Statham, Sam Riley, 50 Cent and Ray Liotta for 13
Mickey Rourke, Ray Winstone, Jason Statham, Sam Riley, 50 Cent and Ray Liotta have all been cast for 13.
The film will be written and directed by Gela Babluani, who also wrote and directed the French version.
Riley plays the title character, a young man who stumbles into an underground competition where the wealthy gamble on human beings in a Russian Roulette-like competition.
Rourke has been picked up to play a convict in a Mexican prison who is sold into the competition. 50 Cent has been given the task of escorting Rourke's character. Winstone comes on as a competitor who has been sprung from a mental institution to participate.
While we assumed Statham would be another competitor, the actor will instead play a wealthy British man who bets on the competition. For some reason or another, he has a peculiar interest in one of the competitors.
Proving he can handle doing law enforcement in Smokin' Aces, Ray Liotta will play a cop trying to shut down the illegal game.
Production on 13 is set to begin in New York on November 20th.
