The Dark Knight
Frivolous lawsuit alert! Remember back when that band sued Warner Bros. for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? How did that turn out? Oh, that's right, the band ended up paying damages for wasting everybody's time. It looks like the same lawsuit is in the works for The Dark Knight, but even more ridiculous.
Batman Lawsuit Against The Dark Knight
Wouldn't you know it, there is a city in Turkey called Batman. No joke.
The city's mayor, Huseyin Kalkan, is hoping to get a taste of all the money The Dark Knight is making by suing the film. Why exactly? Because he thinks the film used the city's name without permission.
"There is only one Batman in the world," Kalkan said. "The American producers used the name of our city without informing us."
Well that is interesting! The only catch is that Batman, as in the caped crusader, has existed since 1939, and he has yet to hear of the city. Huseyin is finding reason, however, to point blame at this particular installment of Batman.
Kalkan blames The Dark Knight for a number of unsolved murders and a high female suicide rate on the psychological impact that the film's success has had on the city's inhabitants.
The claim is so stupid, that the Batman mayor has yet to file officially charges against Warner Bros. As a matter of fact, the only reason the studio knows about this frivolous lawsuit in action is because all the press is talking about it.
If there is any ground here, we can officially assume the world courts are retarded.
