Horton Hears a Who! must have left quite the impression on Steve Carell. Though he's got a couple live-action gigs coming our way, Carell has been picked up by Universal Pictures to voice the title character in Despicable Me.
Steve Carell for Despicable Me
A 3D CG-animation, Despicable Me follows a deplorable man known as Groo who masterminds the mother of all heists when he plots to steal the moon. Egged on by an evil mother (Andrews), Groo finds one obstacle in his way: a trio of orphan girls who temporarily come under his care and won't leave.
The project will re-team Carell with Horton Hears a Who! scribes Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio.
To give him the proper support, Jason Segel, Kristen Wiig, Will Arnett, Danny McBride, Russell Brand, Jemaine Clement, Jack McBrayer and Julie Andrews have also been cast.
Directed by Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin, Despicable Me has a planned release for 2010.
