Hellboy II: The Golden Army
We didn't get to hear from Jeffrey Tambor when Hellboy II: The Golden Army came out. Now that the film is on DVD, he came to an event on street date night to talk about the lavish sets for BPRD headquarters and other locations.
Tambor Talks Hellboy II: The Golden Army DVD Release
"I had a bike while I was there," Tambor said. "On breaks I would go all over the sets and watch them build and tear them down. It was amazing. And I would watch that New York set being built day after day. It was an amazing set."
The DVD has deleted scenes where you can see some portions of BPRD as green screens. It's minimal though. "I didn't have to worry about that too much because there was very little green screen. I had a couple of things but usually there's always something to relate to. You just find something in the scene to hold onto and believe in. It doesn't fly away. Your job is to center it."
Except for windows, most of BPRD was built, and there were actual costumed performers playing the creatures on set. "Sometimes it's a little daunting and you have to say, 'Well, what am I seeing?' But usually they'll give you something. This guy, Guillermo is so great because he'll never leave you in the lurch. He'll always make it very specific."
Those who have seen Hellboy II may wonder what's in store for Manning in a potential sequel. So does Tambor. "I don't know. I would like him to do one caper where he goes in and does something heroic, but we'll see."
With his director working on The Hobbit, could there be a role for Tambor in that? "I don't know, why don't you ask him. Ask him, I'll pay you $20 if you do."
