Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart has become a prize catch ever since her role as Bella in Twilight. Taking advantage of her young rocker appeal, River Road Entertainment has picked up Stewart to star in The Runaways, a rock 'n' roll biopic of the 1970s all-girl band.
She will play the band's lead, Joan Jett.
Kristen Stewart for The Runaways
Directed by Floria Sigismondi off a script she wrote, the biopic will have Joan Jett onboard as a producer.
The Runaways were hugely influential as the first successful all-girl hard rock band; its members included guitarists Jett and Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox. The band was brought together in late 1975 by impresario Kim Fowley, who thought a novelty act of teenaged girls performing in leather and lace would be an easy sell, but the girls ended up proving to be serious and influential musicians with songs like "Cherry Bomb." The band lasted about four years together, falling apart over management and money issues.
Jett, however, went on to form the Blackhearts and released hits such as I Love Rock N' Roll and I Hate Myself for Loving You.
The film, however, will instead only follow both Jett and Currie as they go from teenagers to popular rock stars. The film concludes at the bands dissolution.
The film is hoping for a 2009 production start but the Twilight sequels, starting with New Moon, could complicate Kristen's schedule.
Kristen Stewart can next be seen in the comedy Adventureland.
