Keira Knightley
When Keira Knightley signed on for The Beautiful and the Damned I think she assumed the project already had a director with Nick Cassavetes. Though one can't say what happened -- because we don't know -- Cassavetes fell out some time around Knightley's casting and has finally been replaced.
John Curran to Direct The Beautiful and the Damned
John Curran will direct The Beautiful and the Damned, a film that covers the turbulent marriage of alcoholic writer F. Scott Fitzgerald and his mercurial wife Zelda Sayre, who was schizophrenic. The tempestuous relationship, which unfolded in the high society of the Roaring '20s, inspired some of the novelist's works. Knightley will play Sayre.
Curran will direct off a screenplay by Hanna Weg. The director is no stranger to period dramas, having previously directed The Painted Veil.
F.Scott Fitzgerald is quickly becoming a hot item in Hollywood. David Fincher has recently found success with the author's short The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Baz Luhrmann recently announced that The Great Gatsby will be his next project.
Production on The Beautiful and the Damned is expected to begin this March.
