20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Our first black President (Obama) and now our first black Captain Nemo. That's right folks! Though Disney couldn't have been more whitewashed back in 1954, the studio might be convinced, under McG's guidance, that the person to play the title role in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea should be Will Smith.
McG Hoping for Captain Smith
While talking with the good people at LatinoReview, McG revealed that he is really hoping that Will Smith will play the role of Captain Nemo in the remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
McG talked a bit about his idea and frankly I was getting my jacket to get out of there when all of a sudden I heard him say, “The character Nemo in this film is more about obsession, he is obsessed and people tend to forget that when you become so obsessed you end up being the villain.”
AND THEN THE KILLER ANSWER!! (In an interesting way.)
McG continues, “'Man I’m trying to get Will Smith to do it, been trying to get a hold of him. I've been wanting to work with him for a long time already. That guy's great”
But there's a catch. McG didn't exactly imply who Will Smith would be playing. Nemo or Nemo's antagonist, Ned Land.
Hard to call, but expect Smith -- if he does accept the gig -- to put his own flavor on either part.
