The Spectacular Now
With 500 Days of Summer getting some hype out of Sundance, Fox Searchlight figured they might as well lock helmer Marc Webb down while they still can. The studio has picked up Webb to direct The Spectacular Now, a coming-of-age drama based on Tim Tharp's book.
Fox Searchlight Acquires Spectacular Now
The Spectacular Now follows a hard-partying high school senior whose life changes when he meets a shy, insecure girl.
"It's somewhere between Sideways, Catcher in the Rye and Ferris Bueller's Day Off," said producer Tom McNulty. "It's a heartbreaking story about a kid who realizes his youth is about over."
Eesh, that sounds almost exactly like Catcher in the Rye; a book that put me into a midlife crisis at age 17.
Once a big music video director, Webb made his (grand) feature debut with 500 Days of Summer, starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
