Ginnifer Goodwin plays the character who most needs the advice of He's Just Not That Into You. Gigi waits for the phone to ring and concocts reasons to "run into" people she's waiting to hear from. Of course there's a Hollywood ending, but Goodwin had to play the now.
Goodwin Talks He's Just Not That Into You
"I had really great fun trying to just always live in the moment and not play the end of the story, which is knowing that she would be okay," Goodwin said. "That is what we always see in movies, and that is what I find incredibly boring. That’s what was so refreshing about this script."
As Gigi learns to stop overanalyzing things and read the common sense signals, the film is careful not to force its lessons on the audience. "The script is so balanced. It’s so subtle. I don’t think that the message could have been so powerfully imparted if it wasn’t so subtle, because life is subtle and that’s what makes it so relate-able, right?"

Now that she's a famous actress, Goodwin can laugh at all the real life dating foibles she's endured. She sarcastically joked, "Yeah, I mean we’ve all had only amazing experiences in love. Always. All the time. We’re actors now. I misread signs every day and now I get paid to put those misreadings on screen."
As for those real life experiences, those belong only to Goodwin and the men who wronged her. "I think with this particular cast that we are extremely discreet. I’m sure that these folks agree with me that surely your opinion of a character is affected by what you know about the person in real life. So, the very nature of the question would sort of ruin what it is we’re trying to do in representing the movie here. To talk about how we expressed our characters and why, because truly, we’re playing other people. And we’re hoping that you empower us with [discression.]"
He's Just Not That Into You opens to theaters on February 6th.
