A movie based on a dating guide is rare, and Justin Long plays the character most resembling the book's lessons. As a bartender who's seen it all and done much of it himself, he can offer the advice that He's Just Not That Into You teaches.

"Sometimes that wisdom is so much simpler than what the person’s actually looking for and how they’re looking for it," Long said. "People tend to over-analyze a lot in these situations, and each of these characters is an example of that. They deconstruct it to a point where it doesn’t make sense. So at one point you need somebody to just shake you and say, ‘Shut up. It’s right there. He’s just not that into you.’ But seeing it like that."
Though his character bounces from lady to lady, Long himself needs some consoling after a breakup. "Just being with family and friends, and just being with people who love you and you love. Just existing in that. I definitely rely pretty heavily on them."
Mr. Sensitive here actually sympathized more with the characters he's trying to teach. "They were making fun of me because I was saying I identify with some female characters, but I really did. There was a little bit of truth that I connected to in all of the story lines, even Bradley [Cooper]’s. Though I’m not married and have never been married, I still have been in serious relationships and there was something there that I could draw from in all of the story lines. I definitely identified with all these people. The only one I didn’t was my own, oddly."

Even the Mac guy has a She's Just Not That Into You story. "I went out with a girl in college, and it was the first girl I ever worked up the courage to actually ask out blind, without any preamble. I asked her out, and she spent the entire time asking about my friend James. She accepted, and we ended up going out and dating for a little while. But literally everything I said, I was like, ‘So how’s your coffee?’ She’s like, ‘It’s good. I wonder if James would like this?’ I finally was just like, ‘Do you want me to talk to James?’ She was like, ‘Could you?’ And I did. James was like, ‘Is that weird? Well, I guess not.’"
He's Just Not That Into You opens to theaters on February 6th.
