Paramount has given The Departed scribe William Monahan the task of adapting John Grisham's bestselling legal thriller The Associate. If all goes to plan, the project will become a starring vehicle for Shia LaBeouf.
Shia LaBeouf for The Associate
Paramount acquired the rights to the novel last December. Producer Di Bonaventura and Shia LaBeouf introduced the notion after reading the novel while on set of Transformers 2.
LaBeouf will play a Yale Law School student with a sordid secret that leaves him vulnerable to blackmail. He's manipulated into taking a job at a law firm and working on a multibillion-dollar lawsuit.
Though Monahan has already proven himself as a writer, the scribe may soon become distracted thanks to not one but two directing gigs. The first of which being London Boulevard, another adaptation written by himself.
