It looks like those Tom Cruise banner ads that recently swarmed the internet have begun to pay off. Not that the actor needs 'em, he's still one of the best in the biz, but they may have helped him become one of the most wanted actors at this very moment.
Cruise's to-do list has an opening and a minimum of five different studios are hoping to fill it.
Tom Cruise Mr. Popular
As the banner ads suggest, Tom Cruise has become active when it comes to reminding studios that he exists. With agency CAA -- lead by Kevin Huvane -- now leading the charge, Cruise has had many projects made available to him.
The actor recently joined The Matarese Circle, the adaptation to be directed by David Cronenberg. This, however, is just one of many projects hoping to get him onboard.
Spyglass wants Cruise to co-star with Charlize Theron in The Tourist. DreamWorks wants him for the Len Wiseman-directed Motorcade. The thriller centers on a U.S. president who takes on terrorists that have commandeered his motorcade. Think Air Force One but on the ground.
Universal doesn't want to be left out, and hope to have Cruise join the romantic comedy Lost for Words. The film will put him into a love triangle with his beautiful Chinese director and the filmmaker's jealous translator. While it's strange to think that Cruise would begin selecting comedies -- something he rarely does -- other studios also have him slotted for just that. 20th Century Fox have been pitching Wichika, where he'll co-star with Cameron Diaz in a film about an undercover agent who gets thrown together with a woman who has man trouble. Fox 2000 has also been pitching Hardy Men, which could possibly re-team Cruise with Ben Stiller.
While one can only guess which role(s) Cruise might pick up, it is obvious that the actor has completely recovered from that brief stint of unpopularity. Note to self: Never ever let your sister handle your PR. Nuff said.
