I don’t know about you, but most of Tuesday night’s performances were less than ‘Idol Worthy’.
Many of the contestants chose songs that did not suit them or were very safe. Others were off key and sang under the melody – yikes.
Now for what I felt were the highlight performances of the night.
American Idol: Season 8 Top 12 #2
Adam Lambert was hot – but is it me or do we feel the producers are manipulating us. He was in the final spot (just as Danny Gokey had been last week – he was not my best pick last week, but …). Even though Adam was undoubtedly the best of the night, I don’t like feeling worked. It makes you wonder who we will see in the final spot next week.
I also liked both Kai Kalama and Kris Allen. Kris was chosen for the Top 12 spot, but I look for Kai to be in the wildcard round. Kris has that ‘Rob Lowe look’ – girls will love him. He also has a very likeable performance quality.
Then there were the girls. I felt Mishavonna Henson had the best performance, but America chose 16 year old Allison Iraheta. My biggest disappointment of the night was Jasmine Murray. The girl has the total package, but had a bad night. I would not be surprised to see her in the wild card round.
How much will we miss Nick Mitchell, “Norman Gentle”? I know he is not what American Idol is looking for, but he is certainly entertaining. And in our troubled times, a little comic relief goes a long way. Under all that silliness, he really does have a nice voice. Love you Norman! I know you have a future in the industry – you’re just not for AI.
The last semi-final group of 12 performs next Tuesday with results Wednesday night on Fox.
