The Last House on the Left The Last House on the Left

The Last House on the Left casts Monica Potter as a mother who gets the chance to wreak vengeance on the criminals who attacked her daughter. Sara Paxton plays the young girl and actually looks like she could be Potter's daughter.

Monica Potter Lives in The Last House on the Left

"When I met her, I was like wow, because she looks like how my daughter might look when she's older, to me," Potter said. "It was weird. Then right before that, this lady came up to me and said, before I'd even signed on to do the movie, she said, 'Were you in Aquamarine years ago?' And I said, 'What is that?' It was Sara's movie, and I said, 'No, that wasn't me.' And she's like, 'No, you were in Aquamarine.' I said no, because that wasn't me. When I figured it out I was like oh my gosh. So we're very similar, similarities for sure. I'm going to get it for Molly. Molly, my little one, loves mermaids so she'll appreciate it. Sara's actually going to try to get me a copy."

Potter could handle the bloody murder scenes where mom slaughters her daughter's attackers. It was the wildlife of South Africa, the film's location, that frightened her.

"It was their winter so in the middle of the night, like three in the morning, there are these rain spiders. So shooting at night in South Africa in the rain, not a fan and then there are snakes, animals I've never even heard of sort of lurking about. I was making a fire in the house that I rented, and I went to get wood out the back and there was a lizard like that big, a black lizard. It was the scariest thing I've, and it just darted out at me. It was the meanest lizard I've ever seen and I just started crying, like, 'I can't be here anymore. I just can't do it.' People are like, 'We're going to go on a safari after this, you wanna go?' I'm like, 'Have fun.' Honestly, can you really see me on a safari? No. I'm not the nature type."

She is the revenge type though, so she totally supports the parents taking matters into their own hands. Still, the events of this film must leave the family traumatized for a while.

"I think that they would be very on edge for a while for sure. I don't think that they would take things for granted. I think it would build their relationship, the husband and wife, our characters, make them stronger, more committed to each other. They have a deeper relationship because of what they've just endured but they also probably would never let their daughter out of their sight again, ever. I couldn't imagine living with that fear and anxiety all the time."

As for her other horror movie, Saw, Potter has declined to revisit Mrs. Dr. Lawrence Gordon, though she was asked. "They asked me to come back and do Saw III, like the third and final, yeah right. I didn't really want to do that because I felt like I'd already done it. I didn't really want to have to go back and do another one. It was fun but I didn't really think I would do any more horror movies. Boy, was I wrong."

The Last House on the Left is out in theaters now.
