Race to Witch Mountain
Race to Witch Mountain might not be all that good, the film still had a strong enough opening bow to take the top spot at this weekend's box office.
Box Office Winner: Race to Witch Mountain
The Disney remake opened to $25 million, taking the number one spot from Watchmen, which dropped 67% to take the number two spot with $18.1 million.
Another remake and wide release, The Last House on the Left, opened strong for Universal with $14.7 million, rounding out the top three films.
Though Miss March did look to have some momentum going its way, the latest R-rated comedy was only able to pick up an estimated $2.4 million during its opening bow; barely making the top ten cutoff.
Though Fox Atomic can't be happy with those numbers, Fox Searchlight has got to be stoked on Slumdog Millionaire. After sweeping the awards shows, the film has gone on to become one of the 10 top-grossing Oscar best picture winners. The film's domestic take is currently at $132.6 million, with worldwide far peaking above $250 million.
Another film worth a mention is Taken, which continues to impress audiences by remaining in the top five for the past seven weeks. At the number four spot, the film earned $6.7 million over the weekend, bringing its total cume to $126.8 million.
While the weekend's total take was by no means bad, this is the first frame in nearly two months to have a domestic sum less than the same frame last year. Eh, you can't win them all I guess.
