Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures, and Paramount may soon be reporting in a loss for Watchmen. With a budget that went north of $200 million to produce and market, the film is on track to fall short of that number at the box office.
Watchmen's 2nd Week at the Box Office
It saddens me to see this, especially since Watchmen is nothing short of excellent. What we do have to do is raise our hats to Warner Bros and Zack Snyder while we continue to hope that the adaptation has the legs to remain a top contender in the box office for weeks to come. In its second frame, the film fell a substantial 67% to earn $18.1 over the weekend. Thanks to almost $50 million overseas, the film's worldwide take after ten days is $135.5 million.
In order to make its money back, the film should have already been above the $150 million mark. I, however, am not counting the film out yet. Word of mouth could provide the film with much-needed staying power. Only time will tell.
