True Grit
The Coen Brothers are looking to create a Western and, instead of using new material, have decided to re-imagine the iconic True Grit.
True Grit Gets Coen Spin
If the title sounds familiar, it was True Grit that won John Wayne an Oscar. Unlike the film, however, the Coen Brothers plan on being more faithful to the Charles Portis novel, on which the film is based.
Portis' novel is about a 14-year-old girl who, along with an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman, tracks her father's killer in hostile Indian territory. But while the original film was a showcase for Wayne, the Coens' version will tell the tale from the girl's point of view.
The Coens already have a working screenplay that they wrote. Scott Rudin -- who was also part of No Country for Old Men -- has come aboard to produce.
