As of right now, the latest trailer for Star Trek is my favorite to watch. One of the reasons I like it so much is because of its IMPRESSIVE score. While I failed at discovering just where that music came from, composer Brian Tyler has popped up with the answer to that mystery and more.
Star Trek Music
ScoreNotes caught up with Brian Tyler to discuss quite a few projects including Star Trek. Since the interview was a recording, the good people at AICN have posted snippets from the transcript. It turns out that the music we heard in the film's trailer is a re-mixed track that Tyler created for the Children of Dune series.
You can hear the score in the Star Trek trailer (below) along with more info on the track. (via TrailerAddict)
Update: Bob sent over a correction on the score used in the trailer. It is called "Freedom Fighters" and was composed by the group "Two Steps From Hell." If you search them on google you can find samples. Thanks Bob!
Update 2: The Children of Dune track, "War Begins", can be heard in the film's first feature trailer. Thanks to Marc for the clarification.
...they were temping the movie (TREK) with my CHILDREN OF DUNE scores and things like that. That's how the trailer music came about - so much so that they did kind of an expanded recording of the piece from CHILDREN OF DUNE...they kind of extended it to expand the length of the piece...
Star Trek will open to theaters on May 8th.
