The show opened with highlight clips of last night’s performances.
Next up -the dreaded medley. The produces admitted, in an interview with the New York Times, the contestants tracks for the medleys are pre-recorded. I thought this was the case, but what a disappointment. Isn’t live performance the foundation on which this show was built?
The Ford music video was set to “Pocketful of Sunshine”.
AI Season 2 winner, Ruben Studdard crooned his new single “Together”. That guy can sure sweat. Ryan told us Ruben tied the knot since he last graced the Idol stage. He is still the same Velvet Teddy Bear idol fans grew to love.
We were shown our Top 10 taking a private jet on their trip to Detroit. Anyone at Fox concerned about global warming? I have not been to Detroit personally, but I am sure there are commercial flights there.
Ryan spoke those ominous words “dim the lights.”
American Idol: Top 10 Results
Adam Lambert – safe; Matt Giraud – to the stools of shame (there must be a mistake, this cannot happen two weeks in a row); Kris Allen – safe; Lil Rounds and Michael Sarver stand together – Lil is deemed safe and Michael joined Matt on the stools.
Smokey Robinson and Joss Stone performed a sweet and soulful duet of “You’re the One for Me”.
Once again dim the lights...
Allison Iraheta – safe; Anoop Desai – safe; Danny Gokey – safe; Scott MacIntyre and Megan Joy Corkrey stand together – Megan is safe and Scott joined Matt and Michael in the bottom 3.
Scott MacIntyre was allowed to return to the sofa of safety. This left Michael Sarver and Matt Giraud to await their fate while Stevie Wonder performed. Paula danced herself silly during Stevie’s Motown medley. Stevie Wonder is truly that – A Wonder. His performance was the season’s highlight to date. Part of the joy was watching our Idol hopefuls watching Stevie. What a thrill. (Thank you AI producers for not forcing him into a duet situation like the Grammy’s. Stevie with the Jonas Brothers ugh.)
Ryan asked “who will sing for survival?” After 36 million votes, a record for a Top 10 show – Matt was pronounced safe – Michael received the least number of votes. He performed better than last night. As for the Judges’ Save, Simon passed sentence, “Michael you are going home”. Roll package of Michael’s Idol journey. Not the 9 you thought would be left standing?
Not the bottom 3 you were anticipating? American Idol performances Tuesday/ results Wednesday on Fox.
