Year One Remains Stuck at R

Year One Year One

Though Judd Apatow and Harold Ramis begged the MPAA to reconsider, the organization decided that the Year One still had enough content to earn the R rating. What content? Well, we all know the MPAA is extremely sensitive to anything sexual, though a headshot is fine, and this same 'sexual content' keeps the film's rating out of reach of PG-13.

Year One Rated R

While Columbia Pictures can't be happy about losing a big chunk of potential audience -- at least, without adult supervision -- maybe now's the time to accept the R rating and take advantage of the leeway that it provides. In short, let's put back in whatever may have been cut out of Year One, and celebrate the R rating with adult comedy. I don't know about you, but I'm sick of studios (desperately) trying to qualify their films for PG-13. Hell, even Terminator Salvation is PG-13. Violence is obviously not as offensive in the States.

Judd Apatow's obviously no stranger to R-comedy, so maybe this move by the MPAA is something worth celebrating, as an audience.

Year One opens to theaters on June 19th.
