The Passion of the Christ
I expected The Passion of the Christ to look great. It’s recent enough, successful enough, and important enough to a mass of consumers that they’d ensure it was top notch. I don’t know if I want to own it and watch it over and over again, but if I’m looking to recapture that experience, this is the most visceral way to do it.
On Blu-Ray: The Passion of the Christ
Good God, the detail in the blood and gore is horrifying. Well, some of the body scars look like makeup pasted on because it’s so clear, but who’s to say that’s not what whipped and crucified bodies look like after days in the sun? But really, every welt, scar, gash, gaping wound, and blood droplet is horrifying. I mean, it’s all in close up!
The film is perfectly clear for all the sets and costume. You see all the detail on the grounds during the procession, all the crafted stone pillars and blocks, the stony vistas populated with well costumed armies. Lighting changes gradually representing perfectly at each time of day. Only one shot in the opening at night looks grainy. The rest is flawless.
