Angels & Demons
Author Dan Brown has got a sequel coming for The Da Vinci Code -- notice I didn't say Angels & Demons -- this September titled The Lost Symbol. The next installment in the Robert Langdon franchise, Columbia Pictures has already acquired the screen rights.
Columbia Pictures Acquires The Lost Symbol
The Lost Symbol will hit bookshelves on September 15th. The first print will be a whopping 5 million copies and, though it sounds like a lot, the success of the previous two Robert Langdon books suggests that more are going to be needed. Angels & Demons has sold 39 million copies to date, but that number is easily eclipsed by The Da Vinci Code's 81 million copies.
Sources said Brown has completed his manuscript. Sony has the rights to the Robert Langdon character, which gives the studio the right to negotiate a deal for the new title. Since Code did $758 million worldwide back in 2006, the studio has no reason not to pick this up, even if it costs them a little extra.
