Who's Chris Hemsworth you ask? I don't blame you, as I would have never heard of the actor unless for his cameo role as George Kirk in the most recent Star Trek. The film may soon become his breakout hit, as Chris is now in negotiations to star in Thor.
Chris Hemsworth Negotiating Thor
Marvel Studios is in negotiations with Chris Hemsworth to star in the bigscreen adaptation of Thor. The great Kenneth Branagh is already onboard to direct the actioner, which has a theatrical release set for May 20, 2011.
The casting of Thor has been tricky. Not only does the studio need somebody who can both act and look good physically in front of the camera, but the person must also get the audience to respond to one of Marvel's more unusual superheroes.
A Norse god, Thor develops a protective affinity for humans after his father Odin banishes him to Earth, in order to teach him a lesson in humility. From then on, he's often seen wielding his massive hammer and fighting alongside the Avengers. The same Avengers that includes Iron Man, the Hulk and Captain America. Hey, wait a sec, all four of these properties have or are currently being adapted. Coincidence? I think not.
As long as Marvel can stay on schedule, the casting of Hemsworth for Thor would also mean his appearance in the planned Avengers movie.
