2009 might be the year that converts back into thinking the horror genre can have upstanding films. First we had Drag Me to Hell, which stands out as one of the few horrors with an excellent production value, and now we have The Stepfather.

Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) returns home from military school to find his mother (Sela Ward) happily in love and living with her new boyfriend, David (Dylan Walsh). As the two men get to know each other, Michael becomes more and more suspicious of the man who is always there with a helpful hand. Is he really the man of her dreams or could David be hiding a dark side?
Wow, who knew that Dylan Walsh had it in him to play such a dark character. He has the perfect look. You know - Handsome guy with boyish charm that somehow looks absolutely terrifying when upset. Kudos on the casting. And extra kudos on keeping up with the new trend of horror movies that actually look non-cheesy.
