Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows drops in quite a few new magical characters including Rufus Scrimgeour, an experienced auror known for fighting dark wizards. If you read the books, you know that Scrimgeour replaces Cornelius Fudge as Minister for Magic. The character has a stronger appeal, and the magical community wanted a Minister who at least looked strong enough to stand up to Voldemort and his cohorts.
The character is described as an 'old lion', with tawny hair and bushy eyebrows. In an attempt to raise moral, Scrimgeour constantly requests that Potter join the Ministry in Half-Blood Prince. But enough story-telling -- read the books! -- who does Warner Bros. have in mind to play the character?
Bill Nighy for Deathly Hallows
It looks like Scrimgeour won't be making his first on-film appearance until Deathly Hallows. The good people at The Leaky Cauldron report that Bill Nighy has landed the part. Nighy actually hasn't confirmed the role just yet, but it is being assumed.
"I don't think I'm allowed to say it but I'm going to be in the next Harry Potter film," he tells us. "I won't say which character, but he's a goodie. I just got the gig." If you don't mind us saying, it's about time, Bill. The rangy actor has been dropping hints for eons, once complaining that he was "the only British actor who hasn't been in Harry Potter."
The actor admits to having never read the books, something he is getting to now.
