Universal Pictures has acquired the screen rights to the bestselling Garth Stein novel, The Art of Racing in the Rain, and has it in mind to make the adaptation a starring vehicle for Patrick Dempsey.

The story is told from the angle of Enzo, a family dog with a near-human soul and a philosopher's mind, who evaluates his life through the lessons learned by his human owner, the race-car driver Denny Swift.
Since the role of 'dog' was already taken, Dempsey picked up Swift, an accomplished pro race car driver and car owner who most recently drove Le Mans and finished ninth in the race. As far as we can tell, no director has been selected as yet.
Though Dempsey aka McDreamy can always count on Grey's Anatomy for the income, he has done well with film of recent. Though you don't want to admit it, we all know you saw Enchanted.
