Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
One thing that I love about Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is that it provides terrific visuals for those of us who have read the books. For those of you that haven't, first, shame on you, second, you might feel a bit lost. The film claps along and doesn't really bother to explain some SIGNIFICANT details. It makes me bummed, but hopefully this will convince some of you to (please) go read the books.
That being said, the film still killed it on its opening day.
First Day Box Office: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Half-Blood Prince broke the $100 million mark in less than 24 hours, earning $58.2 million domestically and $45.9 million internationally for a total take of approximately $104 million; making it the best start ever for a franchise.
Other studios definitely saw this coming, hence Potter was given no (big) competition to face up against. What we do have, however, is Fox Searchlight's 500 Days of Summer, which should offer moviegoers something other than fantasy.
A perfect compilation really, considering that both these films are shrouded with positive reviews.
