Starman
They must have done a restoration job when they put out the last DVD special edition of Starman because this Blu Ray looks almost unreal. The quality is super high and only the color pallet and lighting aesthetic hint at any original film look. Meaning, it’s still true to the original film but looks way better than could have been imagined in 1984.
On Blu-Ray: Starman
The shots in space look like 2001 or what Star Wars could look like in this format. Any setting on the country road trip they take is packed with minute detail in the landscape or roadways. Karen Allen’s freckles are no longer hidden by makeup and film grain, and Jeff Bridges was just a flawless specimen for the ladies.
The old school special effects hold up beautifully. They are true creative visions, since someone had to imagine how to make them believable, not just paint them with a computer. You can see all the seems but that’s quaint and it still totally works in the heartfelt tone of the film.
