The State
I’m happy to say that The State holds up even better than I remembered. A lot of shows, particularly sketch comedy, are such products of their time that they no longer carry the same value. In Living Color suffered as such but The State totally works. Probably because it’s more just plain weird than topical.
On DVD: The State
The pilot and deleted sketches included in the bonus features shows is just how good they were, because this is the stuff they left out. It’s just like brand new shows, and it’s as good as if we saw them in the ‘90s because they hold up just as well.
It really is the comedy that became Wet Hot American Summer and The Ten, as well as their solo or alternate group efforts. Here are some additional bits, and certainly familiar ones worth revisiting, with the original gang all together.
