G-Force
Giving families something to see this weekend, Disney's G-Force found enough audience over the warm weekend to knock Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from the top spot at the box office.
Box Office Winner: G-Force
G-Force took the top spot at the domestic box office with $32.3 million over the weekend. Coming in second was Half-Blood Prince, which earned itself another $30 million.
Though the film took second domestically, Prince still found magic at the worldwide box office. The sixth Potter installment took the top spot with $84.4 million internationally, bringing its total worldwide haul to $627.1 million; the quickest pace for any Potter film.
Audiences looking for something a bit more adult went to Sony's R-rated The Ugly Truth, which laughed up a respectable $27 million to take the number three spot. I personally can only wonder how much of the audience was comprised of Gerard Butler junkies. I'm guessing a lot.
Though not exactly a top box office contender domestically any more, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has found a way to make it back into headlines by becoming the 10th highest grossing film of all time (domestically) with $379.1 million. Lord of the Rings fans have reason to be sad, as that beats out Return of the King's $377 million.
Though numbers over the weekend posted strong in light of terrific weather, the box office was still down 17% from the same frame last year; which owes credit to The Dark Knight. Hollywood has no reason to fear, however, as this year's box office is still up 8% over last.
