Eva Mendes
Wait. Hold up. Matthew McConaughey is thinking of starring in a film that is not a romantic comedy? Sounds crazy, though it could work out.
Eva Mendes and Matthew McConaughey Thinking Southbound
Maybe McConaughey is thinking about returning to his former non-romantic glory. Though romance is out, he still shows some taste (in women). Both he and Eva Mendes are in talks to co-star in Southbound.
Directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz off a script by Peter Craig, Southbound will have McConaughey play a patrol officer on the border between California and Mexico who accepts a bribe from a beautiful Mexican woman, putting his family in danger and landing him in the middle of a war between the Mexican crime families and the U.S. immigration police.
McConaughey's last gig had something to do with romance and comedy, so he's definitely due for change. Eva Mendes, on the other hand, is showing a bit more variety, by recently completing Bad Lieutenant for Werner Herzog and Last Night.
Production on Southbound is set to begin this September.
