Alien
It looks like Ridley Scott is tired of seeing the franchise he created get pounded to the ground. Thirty years later, the director is ready to return for a prequel to Alien.
Alien Prequel Coming
To be honest, I always thought James Cameron's Aliens was the best installment of the franchise; but that's just me. 20th Century Fox, who has been desperate to find strength from any franchise, has hired scribe Jon Spaihts to write the prequel to Alien, which Ridley Scott will direct.
If you forgot what Alien was about, the film tells the story of a crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth who is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them. The real warning, however, occurs when an alien explodes out of John Hurt's stomach.
While it is somewhat disappointing that Scott didn't come up with the idea for the sequel himself, Jon Spaihts is the right guy for the job. The scribe has made a name for himself by writing terrific space thrillers; which the Alien prequel most certainly will be.
