The Towering Inferno
The Towering Inferno has a nice, clean, solid transfer and restoration. It still looks like the film it was with the Technicolor scheme and a bit of softness, but it holds up in HD and you’ll see some extra popping colors and gritty detail in between talking scenes.
On Blu-Ray: The Towering Inferno
It’s not one of those restorations where suddenly it looks like you are in the scene. I like those but it’s perfectly fine to maintain the film look. They’ve smoothed out the grain so it’s just the aesthetic that reminds you it’s still a movie.
City colors and licking flames are bright and the more industrial sections of the tower are gritty. Once the fire starts, there’s more rubble and burned crust to see. It’s no landmark Blu Ray but it’s solid.
