Tyler Perry
I haven't heard of this play, so I'm assuming when For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf uses the word 'enuf', they are just sounding out 'enough'. Featuring a damn long title, the play, which first came about in 1975, is being shown some love by Lionsgate; whose first step was to have Tyler Perry onboard to direct and produce the adaptation.
Tyler Perry Had Enuf of the Rainbow
Lionsgate acquired worldwide distribution rights to Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf and has quickly set it up with Perry's newly-formed production company, 34th Street Films.
The play is a series of 20 poems telling stories of love, abandonment, domestic abuse and other issues faced by black women. You know, kind of like the Vagina Monologues, but with am emphasis on race. Enuf was first performed in 1975, later becoming a telepic in 1982. A Broadway revival was planned for the 2008-2009 thanks to the help of Whoopi Goldberg, but that fell through when funding fell short.
Filming is set to begin this November with Lionsgate planning on having the film out in theaters next year.
