Films like Law Abiding Citizen and Taken always remind me of one of my buddy's favorite lines of wisdom (when it comes fighting): "You never know who's a ninja." Yes, he picked a fight with some smaller dude and turned out getting his ass kicked by this same little trained marine. Now, the wisdom doesn't perfectly apply, but both films acknowledge that anybody can be a government agent, a spy, or at least a skilled killer.
The only catch that I have with Law Abiding Citizen is that I don't know who I should be rooting for. I'm a believer in eye for an eye, especially when considering family, and I understand Gerard Butler's need for revenge after the death of his daughter. But, then again, he is now the murderer, making us side with Jamie Foxx, right? Eh, I don't know, and the official one-sheet isn't exactly helping.
Law Abiding Citizen One-Sheet
Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) is an upstanding family man whose wife and daughter are brutally murdered during a home invasion. When the killers are caught, Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx), a hotshot young Philadelphia prosecutor, is assigned to the case. Over his objections, Nick is forced by his boss to offer one of the suspects a light sentence in exchange for testifying against his accomplice. Fast forward ten years. The man who got away with murder is found dead and Clyde Shelton coolly admits his guilt. Then he issues a warning to Nick: Either fix the flawed justice system that failed his family, or key players in the trial will die.
Okay, so the bad guy is obviously red; making Foxx the good guy. Eh, I still have to emphasize with the dude in red.
