Jennifer's Body is Diablo’s second film to have major red carpet premieres. She must be used to it by now. No, the Oscar-winning screenwriter said. She’s still humble and excited.
Diablo Cody on Jennifer's Body
“No, I never get used to this nonsense,” Cody said. “This is crazy and it doesn’t help that there’s this giant crowd outside. I’m a little bit scared to be perfectly frank.”
To Cody, it’s just magic. She turns in a script and then some director goes to work and suddenly Cody has a movie. “It’s the greatest magic I’ve ever experienced. It’s a really cool feeling. That’s one thing I never get passed. Every time I sit down to watch this movie and I hear the opening line, it gives me chills because I can’t believe that sitting at a computer and thinking of something could logically lead to this.”
Cody continues her pop cultural dialogue style. One of Body’s major references is lime green Jello. She should have consulted them for product placement. “Oh my God, if I can get in with the Jello people like I got in with the orange Tic-Tac people on Juno then I’m set for life.”
The screenwriter sports a new look these days, a spiky platinum blonde. Cody is one of the rare screenwriters who gets covered by fashion magazines. “I couldn’t believe that. A writer changes her hair color and it gets press. It’s nuts. It’s crazy. I’ll never get used to that. That’s odd but it was exciting. Most people liked it. I thought to myself I’m going to be promoting this horror movie and I’m going to be all over the place, I want to look like an assassin. There’s something about platinum blonde hair that looks a little evil to me. That was the decision. It’s such a pain in the ass to maintain.”
