The adaptation from Sony Pictures was the only film to do well at the box office over the weekend. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is the best weekend opening ever for Sony Pictures Animation, absolutely annihilating the previous record for the studio held by Open Season at $23.6 million. The film also did well in the third dimension, with IMAX 3D generating a healthy $2.5 million.
The rest of the film's didn't fare so well. The Informant! opened to $10.5 million, which was okay, and strong enough to give the film the second spot over the weekend. After that came Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All by Myself with $10.1 million and then Love Happens at $8.5 million. What happened to Jennifer's Body? Well, that fell below expectations with $6.8 million.
