Disney's adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs book series, John Carter of Mars, has finally had a casting boost with the addition of Thomas Haden Church, James Purefoy and Mark Strong.
James Purefoy, Thomas Haden Church and Mark Strong for John Carter of Mars
Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins will star in the adaptation that centers on a Civil War veteran (Kitsch) who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars, where he becomes embroiled with the planet’s warring people.
Church plays Tal Hajus, an ambitious and vicious Thark warrior who is biding his time to be a ruler. Purefoy plays Kantos Kan, the captain of the Xavarian, the kingdom of Helium’s grand warship. Strong is Matai Shang, the ruler of the Thems with godlike status.
If you're thinking ensemble, then listen to who else is on the callsheet. Names like Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, Dominic West, and Polly Walker ring a bell? Thought so.
Andrew Stanton will direct John Carter of Mars off a screenplay he wrote with Mark Andrews.
Mark Strong can next be seen in Sherlock Holmes, while James Purefoy can be caught swinging the blade in Solomon Kane.
