It's Garry Shandling's Show
I always preferred Garry Shandling’s first show. The inside Hollywood of The Larry Sanders Show was fun, but the meta sitcom of It’s Garry Shandling’s Show blew my young mind. It was probably the first time I’d ever seen the fourth wall broken. If not, it became my prime reference ever since.
It's Garry Shandling's Show on DVD
I wasn’t sure if it would hold up in 2009. 20 years later, with all the meta self-referential stuff that’s come since, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show still rules. A modern audience might not remember the conventions of sitcom he was playing with, but then if you remember the show enough to get the DVD set, you will.
The show still looks like video tape. It holds up as a video look on a big HD set so it preserves that time capsule of a taped sitcom. It may be an expensive box set but it’s really worth watching the whole series again, and there are plenty of extras thrown in as a bonus.
