30 Rock Season 3 DVD
The third DVD collection of 30 Rock episodes has some good no bullsh*t extras. There’s no fluff about how great everything is. It’s all just relevant or funny stuff.
30 Rock Season 3 on DVD
A very short spot on the Muppets show the Muppeteers actually at work on the 30 Rock set. That’s awesome. The entire one minute sex line commercial is funny. Two screens’ worth of deleted scenes shows funny moments that could only have been cut for time.
The most substantial extra is behind the scenes of the “He Needs a Kidney” musical performance. It’s got one moment of 30 Rock irreverence playing with the format, but it’s mainly very factual about how the song was conceived and how the performance was orchestrated.
I like the table read because it shows some extended moments, like the Dealbreakers montage, that are really funny. Some of the jokes end up playing differently on screen too. I just like table reads because the way things play in a room is interesting to me.
Audio commentaries are the only things that leave a little to be desired. Only because they’re normal commentaries, where the speakers don’t have all that much to say, even the quick witted Tina Fey. Jon Hamm and Jack McBrayer do a pretty good one full of funny banter and actual on set anecdotes. Also, you don’t have to listen to them. You can just watch the shows and the extras.
